Rosy Boa Bioactive Enclosure Commission

One of our lucky baby rosy boas had an enclosure build requested by her new family! Here are lots of photos of the build as an example of how pretty a naturalistic snake enclosure can look. Though this girl was small (53 grams) when she went home, I designed this enclosure layout with her adult size in mind.

The details:

  • Enclosure: 40 gallon front-opening tank 36x18x18" (client provided)

  • Lights and heating: T8 UVB fixture (client provided), halogen bulb as primary heat, incandescent bulb as supplemental heat and light

  • Substrate: Custom blend of play sand, coco fiber, fermented flake soil, calcined clay, and leaf litter, with additional sand and warm tone gravel accents on surface

  • Plants: Ponytail palm, Tradescantia hybrid "Purple Fuzzy," haworthia, earth star

  • Background: A photo I took in native rosy boa range of southern California
